A recent study of over 10,000 senior corporate executives and officers found that 93% had their passwords and home addresses available on data broker sites. Another study found that 75% of C-Level and higher executives admitted to requesting to bypass security protocols.
“The severity of the personal security issues faced by board members and senior executives in our current hyper-charged environment was tragically illustrated in the murder of UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson. Not only must individuals take greater security precautions for themselves and their family, but boards need to ensure a safe environment – both physical and cyber — for all their employees. That is why we have a separate chapter devoted to personal security in the 5th edition of the NACD-ISA Directors Handbook on Cyber Risk Oversight,” said Larry Clinton, President of the ISA.
The US Secret Service Cyber Policy & Strategy Director, Matt Noyes, wrote that chapter in the NACD-ISA handbook, and Mr. Noyes will conduct a webinar based on the personal security chapter at noon on Wednesday, July 14, on LinkedIn Live. Mr. Noyes will be joined by Prof. Paul McGrath Connelley, who is the former CISO of the White House Office of Communications and currently teaches at Belmont University.
The webinar will cover the below issues:
- Who is at Risk?
- How Sophisticated Attacks are Executed Against Individuals
- Personal Cybersecurity Protections
- How Companies Ought to be Assessing this Unique Risk
- What a Company can do to Protect an At-Risk Leader
- The Role of Board Governance in this area
Copies of the NACD-ISA Director’s Handbook on Cyber Risk Oversight, and a recording of the webinar can be accessed at ISAlliance.org or NACDonline.org. A highlight reel will be available shortly after the webinar. Previous webinars can also be accessed on these websites, as well as on the Internet Security Alliance LinkedIn page.
